Legal Malpractice Lawyer Resources
The Law Office of Burns & Jain is a law office that represents victims of legal malpractice. We have devoted this page of our website to folks that need resources to research their own issues, and learn what resources there are out there.
The following are Massachusetts resources
Board of Bar Overseers / Office of the Bar Counsel This site is to the Board of Bar Overseers and the Office of Bar Counsel which governs lawyer discipline in Massachusetts. The Board of Bar Overseers investigates claims against Massachusetts attorneys and the Office of the Bar Counsel litigates complaints against lawyers. We generally do not assist clients in filing claims with the BBO.
The BBO has a system that is very easy for clients to use: you fill out their form to submit a claim and they forward the claim to the attorney. The attorney is required to respond. You will get a copy of the response. After that, the BBO determines what, if anything, they will do. They will keep you informed.
Attorney Database Lookup – Board of Bar Overseers This site enables you to look up the status of all Massachusetts attorneys. There is not much information, but you can determine the address, status (active, retired, etc.) and whether the attorney says he or she has legal malpractice insurance. This is critical information for a legal malpractice case.
Massachusetts Clients’ Security Board The Board that oversees return of monies that Attorneys have taken. This Board can be helpful, but only if moneys were stolen.
